Get Rid of Unsightly Hair Permanently

Are you tired of plucking, waxing or shaving unwanted and unsightly body hair? Have you ever imagine the confidence of wearing your favourite sleeveless top without worries of unsightly hair? Have you heard of laser hair removal?

How Laser Hair Removal Works?
Laser is the technique used for permanent hair reduction. The powerful yet gentle laser energy is absorbed by each hair shaft, resulting in the destruction of the hair as well as the bulge of the hair follicle. Lasers achieve a very high success rate for this purpose and vastly superior to waxing, plucking or shaving.

How Many Sessions is Required?
The majority of people will require at least 5 sessions. After each session, most will find that the hair growth has greatly reduced and the new hairs are very fine. Treatments are recommended at intervals of 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the site.

What Causes Dark Circles & Under-Eye Puffiness?

What Causes Dark Circles?
Despite what most people think , dark under eye circles are not primarily caused by stress, or late nights. Rather, dark circles are caused by capillaries that leak blood close to the skin's surface. When this blood begins to oxidise (Hemoglobin Degradation), it turns a bluish red colour, something like a bruise. Since the skin around the eyes is thin, this leads to the appearance of dark circles.

What Causes Eye Bags & Puffiness?
Puffy eyes are due to fluid build-up caused by poor drainage, fragile capillaries and loss of elasticity. Fluid leaks into surrounding tissues and produces the eye bags.

Can't stand the look of your eye bags, puffiness or dark panda eyes? Ask how doctors at NeuGlow can help you. Call 24hr hotline +65 8298 8000 or email enquiry@neuglow.com

Tattoo Removal Gains Popularity

Article Source: KHNL NBC 8 Honolulu
Article Posted Date: 10 June 2009
By: Leland Kim - bio email

HONOLULU (KHNL) - It's a popular trend among teenagers and those in their 20's. We're talking about tattoos, and more than a third of young people under 25 have at least one, according to the Harris Interactive Poll. But what happens when you no longer want that permanent art on your body?

With tattoos' popularity, there is a growing niche among doctors who perform tattoo removal surgery. Thanks to laser technology, the process is less painful than it used to be.

As many as 45 million Americans sport these permanent body art, and tattoo parlors have become synonymous with trendy individualism.

"You go into a tattoo parlor and you get it done," said a woman who has several tattoos. "You pick something and you get it done."

But what happens when your art no longer expresses who you are? That's exactly why this woman we'll call "Jennifer" decided to get rid of her tattoos.

"I didn't think it through and I didn't realize that the one that I picked was not something I want to live with for the rest of my life and I just didn't think it through," said Jennifer.

She came to see this man: Dr. Gregory Herbich, a dermatologist who does a lot of tattoo removal procedures.

"They change their lifestyle," said Dr. Herbich. "They want to have a more professional image, or their job requires that they remove their tattoos."

Jennifer says she wants to project a different image in her 30's.

"You're getting them removed today. How are you feeling?" asked KHNL.

"Kind of anxious and nervous as always but, it's a simple process actually and when it's done, it's not sore. It's not painful," she said.

That's because Dr. Herbich uses Q-switch lasers, which are more gentle on the skin than old methods.

"The laser pulverizes the particles and the body's immune system eats the particles and takes it deeper into the skin," he said.

The patient can use local or general anesthesia depending on how extensive the procedure is. After several treatments, the tattoo is permanently erased.

"What do you want to say to young people who are thinking of getting tattoos?" asked KHNL.

"To think it through," said Jennifer. "To try out those henna tattoos first and pick something that is meaningful to yourself."

As many as 100,000 Americans get their tattoos removed each year. If you get it done, make sure your doctor is board certified and accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

Peppermint Skin Benefits

Peppermint (Mentha Piparita / M. Balsamea Wild) is a hybrid mint, across between the Watermint (Mentha Aquatica) and Spearmint (Mentha Spicata). It is found sometimes in Central and Southern Europe, but was probably first put to use in England. Today, Northern Africa is the main cultivation area for Peppermint. Characteristically the Peppermint plant has a pure and refreshing odour, pungent and burning taste. The essential oil of Peppermint is mostly made up from Menthol, Menthone and Menthyl esters which are responsible for the refreshing odour.

Skin Benefits from Peppermint:
Peppermint helps promote good, healthy and clear skin. Menthol found in Peppermint gives a cooling effect to the skin and further nourishes dull skin and controls excess oil production. By eliminating excessive oils on the skin, acne and clogged pores can be prevented.

Size - 118ml

This superior facial wash showcases Peppermint oil, credited with refreshing, cooling anti-irritant properties. Quickly and effectively removes stale makeup and helps prevent build-up of excessive oils on the skin. Leaves skin feeling refreshed and ready for follow-up treatment or regimen.

Mineral Makeup - Hype or Hope for Consumers?

Article Source: EcoAsia
Text by: Ruth Wong • 16 Mar 2009

"As with the green trend that has swept through the food and fashion industries, skincare and cosmetic manufacturers are coming up with more organic and natural products to satisfy the burgeoning demand from consumers. Is mineral makeup a hype or truly the answer for ‘hazard-free’ beauty?

Common Ingredients Used in Mineral Makeup
Mineral makeup, usually in powdered form, is produced by using natural, finely grounded minerals from the earth. They include foundations, blushes and eyeshadows. While the exact formula for each brand of mineral makeup may differ, here are some of the ingredients most commonly used by manufacturers:

Titanium Dioxide: A naturally-occurring mineral in its unprocessed state. It is not known to cause any irritation to the skin. It provides sun protection and has high light refraction properties to reduce the look of fine lines and large pores.

Zinc Oxide: A naturally occurring mineral, zinc oxide is a great natural sunscreen that protects skin against UVA and UVB rays with no risk of irritation. It is known for its healing properties for problem skin and is the primary ingredient found in diaper rash ointments.

Mica: A mineral silicate with a crystalline shine. It provides the shimmer in mineral makeup.

Bismuth Oxychloride: Manufactured synthetically and is a by-product of lead and copper processing. This ingredient gives the makeup a pearly sheen and a smooth texture.

Kaolin Clay / Talc: The main function of kaolin clay/talc in the manufacturing of mineral makeup is to provide coverage and oil-absorption.

Iron Oxides: Naturally occurring mineral pigments that give mineral makeup it's colours.

Mineral Makeup – Caring for Skin and Environment
Compared to conventional makeup, mineral makeup is typically free of artificial fragrance, colours, binders, preservatives and alcohol. In addition, as oil is not used in the manufacturing process, individuals with oily skin do not have to worry about clogged pores (non-comedogenic) and benefit from the oil-absorbing qualities of mineral makeup. This also means having longer-lasting makeup without the hassle of frequent touching up! Furthermore, some individuals who suffer from rosacea, acne or sensitive skin reported that mineral makeup has help to sooth their skin and reduce inflammation (due to the healing properties of some of the minerals). The lightness of the makeup also offers coverage while providing relieve for their skin conditions and aiding the healing process. In fact, some people feel that mineral makeup is so safe that it can even be worn to sleep.

Just as mineral makeup is gentler on the skin than conventional ones, so it’s its impact on the environment. As mineral makeup is generally produced from naturally-derived ingredients and is not based on chemicals and non-renewable resources like petroleum, it minimises by-products from the manufacturing process that can become hazardous to the environment.

Ingredients to Beware Of
Does "natural” and "from the earth" really means that mineral makeup is risk-free? Maybe not. After all, each brand is formulated differently, it’s important to know what goes into every product. Here are some ingredients to watch out for:

Bismuth Oxychloride: It is a known skin irritant that can cause some people to suffer breakouts, rashes or skin irritations, especially those with acne or rosacea.

Micronized Titanium Dioxide: Some brands use nano titanium dioxide or micronized titanium dioxide. Through nano-technology, the mineral is broken down into such tiny particles that they can be absorbed by the skin. When these particles enter your body, whether through the skin or inhalation, they become toxic and are harmful to your health.

Kaolin Clay / Talc: While they provide coverage and have oil-absorption properties, they can also dry skin out and clog pores. Talc can also cause problems with the respiratory system.

FD & C Dyes: Synthetic colourants which can cause skin irritations and are believed to be cancer-causing.

Carmine: An animal by-product, this is a red pigment obtained from boiling dried beetles. It can cause skin irritations in some individuals. Also, products containing carmine are not vegetarian or vegan.

Making Wise Choices
Even as mineral makeup generally makes for a better option than many conventional cosmetics laden with chemicals, be sure to scrutinise the labels for ingredients that can be potentially harmful. After all, what goes onto your skin can be absorbed into your bloodstream, so exercise caution and protect your skin and health from potential damage." © EcoAsia 2009
